April is Autism Awareness Month! I am celebrating by supporting a dear friend whose son is on the spectrum. I thought I knew a lot about Autism because, well, I've watched Jenny McCarthy on Oprah and I've read magazine articles about Holly Robinson Peete. What else was there? Ha! It wasn't until I met my friend and her family a couple of years ago when our boys played soccer together at age 3, or maybe it was 4. Since then, we have become closer and they have opened my eyes to the daily struggles that they face...as a family and as individuals. There is a lot of controversy about the cause of Autism but at the end of the day, these innocent children are living with something that is out of their control. It is up to us, as fellow parents and human beings, to not turn our backs or judge but to support and try to understand Autism. It's hard for me to write this because there is so so much that I do not know nor will ever fully understand, but I know enough to be there and show support for those that would do the same for me. For the month of April, I will donate 25% off my Hot Green Mama t-shirt sales to the Volusia County Autism Speaks Walk this coming November. If you are not in Volusia County, I'm sure you can find a chapter in your area that would love and appreciate your support Please take a look at my little shop...I'm sure you know a "Hot Green Mama" or two! xoxo
